The leafy South Birmingham suburb of Kings Heath that no one has heard of…

Where the community actively comes together to tackle loneliness, community safety, keep fit, enjoy green spaces and more!

You may not have heard of Brandwood, a superb suburb in Kings Heath, Birmingham, but the local community centres, green spaces, faith organisations, social enterprises and small businesses certainly have plenty to offer, and their ‘Boosting Brandwood’ network is working hard to raise awareness and bring together all the amazing stuff happening by setting up a dedicated website.

Brandwood Buzz aims to celebrate the people, places and activities in and around Brandwood, encouraging residents to visit the website and get involved. They recently recruited a local resident, Mazzy Snape, of Bread Birmingham and Bread Productions, to explore the area and promote what’s on offer.

“I’d heard of Brandwood, and knew it was roughly next to where I live, but never explored. Sometimes people’s routes in and out of areas don’t naturally take us there.  I couldn’t believe how much goes on every week right on my doorstep, all the hidden gems, parks, reservoirs, dance, theatre and craft classes, gardening workshops, community action initiatives, litterpicking, and so so much more. It’s really heartwarming to hear the stories of all of the different members of the local community and how Brandwood Buzz and the connected organisations have positively impacted their lives.” Mazzy Snape

“The Brandwood Buzz initiative grew from a realisation that we needed to boost our specific area. We are ‘Kings Heath’, but our neighbourhoods, mostly under-resourced housing estates that don’t fit in with the image of ‘affluent Kings Heath’, needed an opportunity to showcase what is on offer ‘on the doorstep’ to local people. Over 25 local voluntary groups, community organisations, schools and businesses are working together to create a ‘buzz’ around the Brandwood area. The website brings it all together https://brandwoodbuzz.co.uk/. It is a brilliant resource to find out about venues, green spaces, support sessions, schools, classes and so much more, including an interactive map.” Suze Carter, Brandwood Buzz and Our Scene CIC.
