Ray Richardson brings Soul Weekender Art Exhibition to Digbeth

Otherwise known as the Scorcese of the art world, Ray Richardson is an oil painter who adapts the renaissance style with a mod and soul influence. On Friday 22nd July he’ll be bringing his exhibition, the Soul Weekender, to Digbeth Arts Space in the Custard Factory with an after-party at The Night Owl, situated up the road on Lower Trinity Street.

The exhibition launches at 6pm on Friday in Zellig’s Digbeth Arts Space with DJs Sean T Taylor and Dean Smith playing soul music as a backdrop to the collection of oil pieces which prominently feature the life of working class Brits as well as a strong focus on Staffordshire and English Bull Terriers. There will be complimentary drinks available at the exhibition. The official after party will be taking place at The Night Owl with their Dig? club night taking the form of a Soul Weekender special featuring DJs Sonny & Spare and Sean T Taylor.

Speaking of the collection, famed writer Austin Collings claims, “The paint never knew how wonderful it was, until it hit the canvas. The colours call to mind the past that made them. Your eyes go WOW. Your body goes POW. You’re more alive than you usually are. Ray’s paint has the gift of sight.”

Saturday 23rd will see a ‘doggy walkabout’ with the artist which promises over 50 Bull Terriers on the streets of Digbeth followed by a meet and greet on Sunday 24th July. All proceeds from the weekend will go to Staffordshire and English Bull Terrier Rescue charities.
