Bread Picks: 10 Must-Do Christmas Events in Birmingham

We’re getting Christmas ready here at Bread so we’ve decided to unpack some of our favourite ways to spend Christmas here in the second city and shout about some of the must-do, must-see things that Birmingham has to offer!

Miracle on Heath Mill Lane – 10th & 17th December

The Old Crown in Digbeth will be hosting a free entry Christmas party this December on Friday 10th and Friday 17th with Miracle on Heath Mill Lane. Expect festive cocktails, warm winter drinks as well as DJs & live performances in their heated & covered beer garden.

The Nutcracker at the Hippodrome – 19th November – 11th December

It wouldn’t be Christmas without The Nutcracker! You can catch Sir Peter Wright’s legendary production of The Nutcracker from the 19th November to the 11th December at Birmingham’s Hippodrome, located in the Chinese Quarter. Enjoy ​​Tchaikovsky’s soaring score and the 60-strong Royal Ballet Sinfonia and the Birmingham Royal Ballet’s company of world-class dancers.

Hott Date Christmas Eve Party – 24th December

After a hugely successful return in September, Hott Date is back this Christmas eve for a party like no other! DJs will be playing an eclectic mix of alternative party tunes, soul, funk, disco, indie, hip-hop, electro and more! For those of you that have been to Hott Date before you’ll know that you’re in for a treat as it’s always a fantastic time. Yshee Black’s Lip Sync Xmas Xtravaganza at The Night Owl – 23rd December

Join us at The Night Owl for a night filled with lip sync battles, performances, games and prizes for best lip syncers, hosted by Yshee Black! Yshee is joined by Pork Pie, Dahliah Rivers and Blu! It’s a show not to be missed!

Ice Skate Birmingham – 7th November – 12th January

Voted as one of the best outdoor ice skating rinks in the UK, Ice Skate Birmingham set in Centenary Square is a fantastic weather-proof rink that covers up to 600 square metres of ice next to the giant wheel that lets you see Birmingham from heights you couldn’t reach before! This would be perfect for a family day out or a quaint date night this Winter.

MOHO NYE – 31st December 

Celebrate New Year’s Eve a little differently this year with a very special MOHO vs Selextorhood NYE party. Beloved hip-hop club night MOHO is heading to the Old Crown this winter for a special night with Selextorhood, a community that supports & promotes DJs whilst pushing for gender equality. The night will include special guest headliners.

Jewellery Quarter Christmas Lights – 19th November 

The Jewellery Quarter is going big with its Christmas lights switch-on this year! Meet Perry the Bull, Birmingham 2022’s official mascot, enjoy delicious food from Hockley Social Club, live music, and festive drinks from local venues. There will also be a brilliant fireworks display and the launch of the Jewellery Quarter Window Trail.

 

 

Ash Sheehan at D.J. Quinn’s – 26th December

 

One of Birmingham’s best Irish pubs, D.J. Quinn’s is hosting Brummie legend Ash Sheehan this Boxing Day. Ash Sheehan is a member of both garage-punk band Dead Sea Skulls and local indie icons, The Twang. The drummer, guitarist, trumpeter and singer is well known across Birmingham for his eclectic performances of Irish classics and party favourite anthems.

Bournville Christmas Festival – 27th November

For any locals in Bournville and the surrounding area we can’t recommend this enough! November 27th sees the Bournville Christmas Festival take place with craft and food stalls, stilt walkers, mini carol services and a Santa’s Grotto. The Bournville Carillon will also play and you’ll get to see the stunning light display switch on!

 

 

There’s plenty to get stuck into this festive season! As always, Birmingham is bursting with exciting holiday treats from now right through into the new year. We can’t wait to head down to some of these ourselves – hopefully we’ll see you there!
